Serena of Hawthorne is a generational bana-bhuidseach (witch) who has always embraced the blessing and curse of being able to see another’s future. She can not only see the future of a chosen path but that of another path that occurs if certain decisions are made. She has worked hard to not let this gift control her life and freedom. When she meets Drogan of Wolfglynn, Serena knows that the most important thing she has to protect and keep safe is her heart.
Drogan is a titled lord and knight of the king fighting the darkness from his past that is haunting his present existence. This evil he thought destroyed has come back to haunt him and destroy everyone including his brother-in-arms Gerard. With all this inside his head tormenting him, the moment Drogan sees Serena, he instantly knows that she can help him overcome the nightmares and demons haunting him.
On the journey back to Wolfglynn they encounter friend and foe and they stand side by side fighting to make it back home, and prepare for the upcoming battle. While Wolfglynn appears to be a safe haven both Drogan and Serena know they will have to fight the evil that is bent on destruction. Drogan reveals all to Serena that he is in love with her, and while she fears falling in love with him, but knows she can’t stop it from happening either.
Shadow Magic starts a new series for Donna Grant titled the “Sisters of Magic”. It was an enjoyable and exciting intorduction. Their love story while unconventional was very sweet and tender. This is a couple you want to succeed, and overcome any and all obstacles to find their happiness in love. Being the first in the series the author did a great job of laying the foundation of the series for future novels. Shadow Magic was a satisfying read and I look forward to the next novel Echoes of Magic. Enjoy!
