There are three sisters born into the Druid clan, as they get older they will be the most powerful of druids and able to fulfill a prophecy set before them. They represent Wind, Fire and Water. They are young and vulnerable. When the MacNeil comes raging down on their home, he kills their parents and two of the young girls. He cannot bring himself to kill the infant. Instead he takes her and raises her as his own, she is kept sheltered without human contact and has no life outside the castle walls. He belittles her and plans on using her for his own nefarious gains, for she represents fire. Fire the ability to snuff out life and conqueror all enemies. But destiny takes a hand in Glenna's life by bringing her saviour to her castle gates looking for his sister Iona the only friend Glenna has ever known. Glenna knows the only way to save herself and Iona is to offer herself as prisoner to Conall MacInnes. But what Conall does not know is Glenna is anything but a prisoner in his arms and home, she is free, free to establish her life and free to finally understand all these confusing powers she has been hiding for years.
Conall is devastated and on the hunt, looking for his sister Iona. She disappeared over a year ago, his mother and father have died and his last promise was to find Iona and bring her home. He knows the MacNeil took her. He is half Druid and Half Highlander. He always wanted to be a Druid Priest but duty requires him to be Laird. Shunning his Druid blood he is losing his ability to read minds to determine the truth. The Druids refuse to help him find Iona, claiming she is following her destiny. Outraged that the ones who his family has protected and sheltered for years have turned their back on him and his family when tragedy strikes, he takes matters into his own hands. When he sees Glenna he cannot resist her offer of capture, nor can he fight the feelings developing for her or his role in the prophecy.
Highland Mist is one action packed book. It is emotional, it is sensual and it is intriguing. It pulls you in with the first page and as you greedily devour all that is contained, there is an incredible sense of sadness. Glenna is a character that is strong, sheltered, determined, proud, beautiful and very confused. Imagine your whole life sheltered with no physical contact, no hugs, no kisses on the head, and no praise from your father. She always knew he was a monster but the level of his evilness becomes apparent to her during this novel and she knows he is not done with her.
Conall was another character in this novel that pulls at you. He is fighting everything he believed in, he is fighting to retain his pride and he is fighting to hang onto his soul mate. He knows by embracing the Druid life, Glenna will be lost to him. It takes incredible strength on Conall's part to deal with his past and accept what is to come if he wishes to keep Glenna with him.
There are many characters in this novel that intrigued me. From Gregor to Moira and lastly Fiona. But more importantly the stranger, the one who is cloaking himself from the Druids and the Fae. He intrigues me and I really want to know who he is. In a thrilling cliff hanger to this book you know the second novel will pick up where this one left off and I for one cannot wait to return to The Druids Glen and read more about these characters that Donna Grant has created.
