Elle Blanchard knows she's no great beauty. She is a strong, intelligent woman who is content with who she is. Roderick of Thales and Val are on a mission to find one of the five women who will help them defeat the evil that is out to destroy the world. When Roderick finds Elle, he finds himself affected physically and emotionally by her presence. He knows he will have his hands full in trying to convince her of the danger she is in and whether or not she will believe his tale.
Roderick and Elle are in for a battle. Elle soon realizes that Alex is not who he seems and it costs her Jennifer. He has let loose terrible creatures to destroy everything in sight in his quest to find her. Roderick and Val manage to save Elle by going back in time to where they were last with the rest of the Shields. Elle knows its only a matter of time before the creatures will find them again. She is drawn to Roderick and is terrified he doesn't feel what she feels for him and he is going through the same thoughts and emotions. With help from the Fae, they set up a strategy to help them against the creatures knowing they must defeat them at all costs.
A Kind of Magic is a whirlwind adventure that doesn't stop, it takes you on a wild ride of danger, love and the ever persistent battle between good and evil. The Shields are magnificent in their battles against the evil and creatures that exist from myths and legends. We get to revisit old characters and meet some new ones in this series. Donna Grant has written another satisfying story that has you instantly wanting to see where she will take you next and what will they face, bring on the next Shield.
