Shannon O’Malley an EMT in the year 2007 was taken back in time to a life that she wished she could escape from. She has no idea why or how she ended up being a tavern wench under the painful and forceful hand of Benton the bar owner. She gets no answers to her questions, only that she cannot leave until it's her time to be taken up to the castle, never to be seen again. There is an evil presence lurking behind those walls, one that feeds on the villagers under the ruthless power of Lord LeBlanc.
Cole, along with fellow Shield Gabriel, has come to LeBlanc village to locate the evil presence and destroy it and the jewel that controls the evil. They are the two of the five remaining Warriors assembled by The Fae to guard Earth and the Fae from the evil that penetrated other realms. When Cole sees Shannon he instinctively knows she is not from this time. He is deeply attracted to her and has even had dreams about her. He protects her from Benton and soon they are wrapped up in a passionate tango, where enemies are searching for Shannon and her very life is at stake because she bears the mark. Cole will do anything to keep his dream from becoming a reality, making his mission even more dangerous as it’s revealed the evil is searching for Shannon and he will do anything to protect her.
A Dark Seduction is the third book in Donna Grants The Shields series. It is a sensuous and fast paced novel that hooked this reader immediately to the story, characters and series. Shannon and Cole seemed to understand each other before a word was spoken and held onto each other as this story progressed. With the danger and evil lurking nearby it held an ominous tone as well and made the read all the more fascinating. As part of a series, while it might benefit the reader by reading the previous two novels in the series, Ms Grant did a great job introducing new readers without overwhelming them with nuances from previous novels, but gradually brought them into the story. The character of Aimery in the novel really intrigued me and I will be looking forward to reading his story as well as Gabriel, whose character contained a hint of mystery to him, and whose story I am anxious to discover more about .
