After seven hundred years of captivity and being tortured by an ancient demon, Tain, an Immortal warrior, has finally been freed. As would be expected, he is having a hard time readjusting to life and the dark memories that threaten to overtake him. He comes to Los Angeles to seek the woman that saved him from himself, and becomes embroiled in the search for a killer who has been murdering young demon women.
Samantha hasn't been able to stop thinking about Tain since the moment she met him. While working undercover at a demon club she finds herself face to face with him once again. Samantha had fallen for Tain and agrees to help him discover who is behind the ghastly crimes. The more time they spend together, the harder it is to deny the attraction simmering between them.
I was eagerly awaiting Tain's book because I just knew it would be something special, and I was not disappointed. The connection between Tain and Samantha was powerful and seductive, they were just so completely right for each other and that came across perfectly. They each had their issues, Tain being haunted by the past and Samantha's half-demon nature and having to finally confront it. Both have a darker side that they struggled with that made their relationship difficult yet that much more satisfying.
We see some familiar faces from past books; Septimus the dynamic vampire, Tain's brothers Hunter (and his wife Leda) and Adrian. There are also some fascinating additions, Merrick, the wickedly sexy demon and Logan, Samantha's werewolf partner. Jennifer has created so many captivating characters that readers will long for them to have stories of their own. They each have such individual personalities and are wholly intriguing and in her capable hands they come alive.
Jennifer's first book in the series Immortals:The Calling impressed me very much, but I have to say that Tain's story surpassed all of my expectations. It was infused with Jennifer's wry humor and plenty of gritty action but it was also filled with a lot of heart and emotion. Even the love scenes (which were very hot) had an undercurrent of feeling that made it all the more enjoyable. I fell for Tain and Samantha and wished them nothing but happiness, not just because I enjoy a happy ending, but I wanted it for them. On the last page of The Redeeming my heart clenched at the sheer joy that Tain and Samantha were feeling. I was sad to part with them and hope to see them again.
